Press Release

This year's Neil Gunn Lecture is being held in the OneTouch Theatre in Eden Court, Inverness, on Thursday the 11th September at 7pm. The Neil Gunn Trustees have invited James Robertson, a highly respected award winning Scottish author, poet, short story writer, publisher and editor, to be the Lecturer. For the Theme of the Lecture James has chosen 'The Wholeness of Life: Neil Gunn, Culture and Independence'.

In his novels James has explored the power of fiction to go where historical records do not and his latest novel 'The Professor of Truth' tackles some of the big issues that emerged following the Lockerbie disaster and confirms Robertson as a writer of both courage and integrity.

The Neil Gunn Trustees have tended to bring in Lecturers from outwith the area, giving local people the opportunity to listen to, talk to and question authors, radio presenters and specialists from their particular area, who they would not normally have the opportunity to meet.

[One week before we vote on the question ‘Should Scotland be an independent country?’ James Robertson asks what the Highland writer Neil Gunn might have to say about it'.]

This is an Event you do not want to miss!
The Talk will be followed by the Launch of the 2014/15 Neil Gunn Writing Competition.
